The project story
Built around how the space needs to work.
The original kitchen occupied a large footprint but used it poorly. A long blank wall consumed valuable floor area, the kitchen remained visually separated from the rest of the house, and the working zone was crowded into one side of the room. Two dim ceiling lights and a misplaced ceiling fan made the space feel darker and less useful than its size should have allowed.
We approached this as a complete layout correction, not a surface-level update. Opening the room connected the kitchen to the adjoining living and dining spaces, while the new island turned previously wasted floor area into usable preparation space, storage, seating, and a natural gathering point. Every major choice was coordinated around both daily function and the client’s distinctly artistic style.
01A layout that earns its space
The room was large. The usable kitchen was not.
Square footage alone does not make a kitchen functional. The former arrangement left circulation and empty wall space doing almost nothing while cabinets, appliances, and meal preparation were compressed together. The new plan redistributed the room around clear work areas and a central island, giving the homeowners more counter space without making movement feel tight.
02Storage designed for the house
A real pantry, built into the plan.
The renovation added a dedicated pantry with custom-built wraparound shelving. Instead of forcing food and small appliances into the main cabinet run, the pantry gives them an organized home and keeps the kitchen counters available for cooking and everyday use.
03Lighting and personality
Brighter does not have to mean generic.
The old room relied on two dingy fixtures and a ceiling fan placed where useful task lighting should have been. Recessed lighting now spreads warm, even light through the kitchen, while pendant fixtures define the island. Deep blue cabinetry, the patterned tile backsplash, warm metal hardware, and the client’s bold ceiling color make the finished room unmistakably personal.
